It has been at least six months in the making. It’s always our intention to move fast and somehow we don’t manage it. Somehow getting things done correctly takes time. We feel that it’s worth it. The record was originally to be called Custom House Boogie. It was dedicated to the customs officials at the Serbian border who blocked the test pressings of our first record for a number of months. When we finally told them to forget it and send them back to London they took another number of months to get sent back, apparently because there was “no room on the truck”. So that was a negative time, like something from the ‘80s, a Cold War feeling, isolation. Joy Division remains popular round here. But to be honest that’s not how we feel on the whole. Since then we learned to live like Chinese dissidents and to bypass red tape and slip through borders and finally got SVET001 out in February of this year things have moved quickly and the world has started to peel open like an artichoke, leaf by leaf, layer by layer. The artists on this collection are all people who we have released records by or have records in the pipeline by, apart from Prohor who emerged randomly from the ether and we look forward to hearing more of his stuff when we can somehow reconnect with him. Download is free, but people can give us money if they want to and this will help us press more records and pay artists and designers and all that stuff. This is a Belgrade collective manifested in a clothes shop which combines funky vintage stuff with an outlet for Serbian designers and creative makers. He's got an EP in pipeline, featuring Shuanise among others: we've heard it and we say don't sleep. His sound is sophisticated, with a strong jazz influence but full of melody, and he plays great fluid intricate live sets. But hold on, however, this isn't jazzy or intricate. THIS IS A BANGER. The day we got this we played it out and it delivered. Check some of Josip's back catalogue here. Auditory Ossicles are an actual band with real instruments from Sofia, Bulgaria, who tread the margin line between jazz and electronics. Key to their unique sound is their use of strange Balkan time signatures which give the music a unique swing. Here they reprocess Splash into a euphoric surging synth anthem with their signature skittering broken rhythm sound and tuneful and large. 2010 Buy the vinyl here Clutch by Svetlana Industries The Tropics EP is something quite different and something quite special. The seven track mini album is the product of an 18 month collaboration between LA based beatmaker Teebs and UK producer Jackhigh, and is already attracting serious praise. Back in the day, London based Jackhigh had already been featured as 17 year old on the genre-defining Beatnicks EPs from Up My Alley label and started to get involved in collaborations, producing remixes and so on, while an equally young Teebs found himself living in LA with Flying Lotus and Samiyam for flatmates. As Teebs remembers it, Jackhigh put a snippet of a tune he liked on Myspace and Teebs asked him to send it over. “I flipped it, sent it back. He added strings, sent it back to me again. I flipped it again” And so it continued, in a slow organic way, loops becoming processed and degraded and altered and added to, and tracks slowly emerging. Over time a total of seven tunes emerged. These tracks were produced in a unique way: they never existed as arrangements laid out in software on someone’s computer, only as a single stereo file, passed to and fro, and endlessly worked and tweaked and eroded. Still early into 2010 The Tropics EP is a very different record and a sign of things to come: fresh, organic, mature, holistic, unified, and totally next level. We’ll putting out an ultra limited edition of 25 unique hand painted sleeves by Teebs which will be available directly from us in due course. Watch this website for details. It's a chirpy 8-bit dubstep banger from Filtercutter, with a heavy stripped Ramadanman refix on the flip. It's a beautful thing. 1UP by Svetlana Industries To mark the release we've also commissioned a sexy t-shirt from Nous Sommes Des Soleils. The shirt is made by a friend in a small workshop factory right here in Belgrade, and some elements are sewn by hand. We've worked with the maker to develop a custom garment so it is slightly longer than usual with a wider neck. It is designed to be loose and cool, so it's available in M (ideal for women and smaller men), L (ideal for larger women and skinny men), and XL (ideal for most people). To be honest XL is the look we're going for with this. Currently the shirt is only available in a bundle with the vinyl in a strictly limited edition of 40 worldwide.
