Glasgow's bubbling at the moment. I mean, it's basically been bubbling for years, ever since Orange Juice segued into Teenage Fanclub segued into Mogwai into Arab Strap into...

...into the aquacrunk explosion that was Rustie, Hud Mo, Numbers, Lucky Me, Stuff Records (RIP), friends and heroes all. Something lies in the combination of rain, chips, friendliness and violence that keeps the pot brewing, and it was probably this something that brought the 26 year old Maya Medvesek - literally Maya the Bear person - out of Alpine Slovenia to the windy Scottish metropolis.

Maya started her electronic messing at the age of 14, running it alongside a traditional music education and jazz singing. After arriving in London in 2002 she started to absorb the influences of the big grimey smoke, retaining her love for the machine music of Detroit but inescapably adding that London deep bass into her productions. A subsequent move to Glasgow saw her complete the next stage in her journey, interfacing with the wonk sound that was just starting to explode there.

Now she's ready for the big things. Remixes have already started appearing here and there (see below) and she had a collection of tracks reviewed by the hugely prestigious UK magazine The Wire while they were still on CDR, and she's widely tipped as one to watch for 2010. Incidentally, the gamers amongst you may like to know that Maya's body and moves were used for no less than three of the characters in DJ Hero.

Maya's given us a tight little clutch of tracks that we're more than excited about, but while you wait for those here's some free stuff:
