Budapest native Matyas Lendvai is an elusive character. He’s almost impossible to pin down for photo shoots, he only likes to meet in public places, and he’s one of the most organic music makers we’ve ever come across. We first met Matyas making very warm synthy dubstep anthems, but his diversity and the fact that he doesn’t even think in terms of genres soon became apparent. Matyas is one of those guys for whom music making is simply an integral and indispensible part of everyday life.

One a day an MP3 of a raw Africanised synth groove drops into our inbox. “Matyas, what’s this? This is mental.” “Oh, my girlfriend’s dad had some Vermona analogue drum machine from 1976 on top of his piano, so I stole it and made it sound African, but it needed distortion.” Sometime later Matyas drops us one of the heaviest tracks we’ve ever heard from him, something like wonky meets the deep and heavy atmospherics of Scorn. “Matyas, this is heavy shit but it’s great, we’ve got to put it out.” “Oh, that’s not for putting out, I just jammed it this morning when I got up.”

It‘s not always easy to do justice to this kind of musician within the confines of conventional music marketing, but we believe in this case the tunes will do the talking.
